Kankakee County gets $100,000 to jump-start tornado recovery: CSL contribution

CSL Behring has pledged $100,000 to support recovery after the March 10 tornado that struck Kankakee and Iroquois counties, directing the funds to the region’s Emergency Response Fund to help families and local organizations meet urgent needs.

The gift matters locally: CSL’s manufacturing presence in Kankakee stretches back decades, and the site employs more than 1,200 people, many of whom live in the affected communities. Continued recovery affects both immediate relief and the long-term stability of a major regional employer.

How the donation will be used

The contribution was made to the Emergency Response Fund, a joint effort between the United Way of Kankakee & Iroquois Counties and the Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley. According to organizers, the money will be allocated to local nonprofit partners to deliver:

  • Emergency supplies such as food, water and personal essentials
  • Short-term support services including shelter, transportation and case management
  • Longer-term recovery work focused on rebuilding homes and restoring community services

CSL Behring operates a manufacturing campus in Kankakee that has been active since 1954. The facility produces scaled, sustainable therapies derived from plasma for patients who depend on these medicines. Protecting the local workforce and ensuring production continuity are among the practical stakes tied to the community’s recovery.

Company leadership framed the gift as part of a wider commitment to the area. Jose Campos, Vice President of Manufacturing and head of CSL’s Kankakee site, said the company stands with neighbors affected by the storms and intends to support ongoing recovery efforts as work continues in the weeks and months ahead.

The Emergency Response Fund channels donations to vetted nonprofits and relief programs, allowing aid to reach people quickly while also supporting coordinated rebuilding projects. For residents and employees coping with displacement, repairs or lost resources, that combination of immediate assistance and longer-term support can be crucial.
