The Herald/Country Market newspaper is a family owned community newspaper dedicated to publishing accurate and fair information.
Toby and Robert Olszewski purchased the stock of B & B Publishing Co., Inc. in 1983 from Jean Fons. Her husband, Lewis Fons, and she purchased the newspaper in September of 1977, forming
B & B Publishing. Jean assumed leadership in 1979 after Lewis’ untimely death in July.
Today, the combined circulation of The Herald and The Country Market is 38,997 covering
the majority of Kankakee County and part of Will County. In March, 1994, The Herald
moved into a home built specifically for the newspaper at 500 Brown Blvd.
Throughout the years, The Herald has won editorial, reporting, feature writing and
ad design awards from both the National Newspaper Association and the Illinois Press
Association as well as honors from many local civic and charitable organizations. In 2004,
The Herald was
named best weekly newspaper in Illinois for ad design.
Through its reporting and editorial help, The Herald was instrumental in the protection
of the Perry Farm, the establishment of the Bourbonnais Township Park District, the
preservation of the Letourneau Home in Bourbonnais and the establishment of the
Bourbonnais Public Library District.
